Thinning Hair .. or breakage?

My Hair Is Thinning… Or Isn’t It? Understanding Hair Breakage

It is one of the questions we hear most often.

“Why does my hair suddenly feel so much thinner?”

Sometimes it starts after pregnancy. Sometimes during periods of hormonal change or stress. For others, it happens so gradually that they only notice it when their ponytail suddenly feels smaller, the ends look less full or their hairstyle no longer has the bounce it once had.

But hair that looks thinner does not always mean the same thing.

Sometimes there really is less hair growing from the scalp. But something else can also be happening at the same time: the hair that is still there has become weaker.

Hair breakage happens when strands snap along their length. It is different from shedding or hair loss, although these concerns can occur together.

Years of colouring. Bleaching. Brushing wet hair. Daily blow-dries. Straighteners and curling irons. Sun, sea, air-conditioning and everything else we ask our hair to deal with.

Individually, these moments may seem small. Together, they change the way hair looks and feels.

The roots may still look relatively full while the lengths become finer. The ends start to look almost transparent. Hair tangles more easily, breaks faster and loses shine.

And with age, many women simply notice that the hair they once knew no longer behaves in the same way.

These everyday conversations became the starting point for Fiona Franchimon’s latest high-performing haircare. Not one product trying to solve everything, but two technologies designed around two very different problems.

What Causes Hair Breakage? When Hair Loses Its Strength

The first problem Fiona kept seeing was hair that did not necessarily need more styling. It needed more support.

Colouring and bleaching can leave the hair increasingly fragile. Hot tools expose it to repeated heat. Wet brushing puts already vulnerable hair under extra tension. These everyday habits can contribute to hair breakage. Over time, the lengths and ends begin to feel thinner, drier and less resilient.

That became the inspiration behind Repair & Rebond.

Repair & Rebond is a lightweight leave-in repair spray developed for damaged, coloured, bleached and heat-styled hair.

At the heart of the formula is an advanced chia seed-derived active designed to support compromised areas of the hair fibre.

The idea was never simply to coat the hair until it felt smooth. Fiona wanted damaged hair to feel stronger and more substantial while still behaving the way healthy hair should.

Flexible. Shiny. Soft. Bouncy.

Because repair should never mean making the hair hard or stiff.

The chia-derived technology creates a flexible supportive film around weakened parts of the hair, helping the lengths and ends feel stronger and fuller without sacrificing natural movement.

97% experienced less hair breakage after just one use.*

For Fiona, that difference is essential. A repair product should not only make hair look better in the moment. It should improve the way hair feels when you touch it, brush it and style it.

But Stronger Hair Can Still Be Flat

The second problem started with another familiar complaint.

“My hair looks great when I leave the house, but two hours later the volume is gone.”

Fine hair often struggles to keep body. And traditional volumizing hair products can create a new problem of their own: too much stiffness, too much stickiness, too much product feeling in the hair.

That became the challenge behind Thickening & Volume Spray.

Thickening & Volume is a volumizing spray for fine, flat or frizz-prone hair, creating up to 125% fuller and thicker-looking hair.

Hair thickening products are designed to make existing hair look fuller. With Thickening & Volume, Fiona wanted that fullness to come with softness and natural movement.

Its key technology is a flexible resin, and that flexibility changes the styling process.

Instead of becoming hard or sticky straight away, the product stays workable while you blow-dry. The brush can still move through the hair. The roots can still be lifted. The lengths can still be shaped.

Then, as the hair reaches approximately 90% dry, the flexible resin begins to build structure and body around the hair. That is where the volume develops.

Not by making the hair rigid, but by creating support while keeping movement.

Why Flexibility Matters

For someone with fine hair, humidity can quickly destroy a blow-dry. Beautiful volume in the morning becomes flat hair by lunchtime.

For someone with thicker hair, humidity creates the opposite problem: expansion, frizz and loss of control.

The flexible resin in Thickening & Volume supports the hairstyle in both situations. Fine hair gets more body and lift. Thicker hair gets more control.

And because the formula also enhances shine, hair colour looks brighter, richer and healthier.

The goal was never simply bigger hair. It was hair that looks fuller while still feeling soft, flexible and polished.

It Always Starts with the Woman in the Chair

For Fiona Franchimon, product development starts in the salon. After more than 25 years of working with hair, the same questions keep returning.

The woman worried about her hair after pregnancy. The client whose blonde ends have weakened after years of highlights. The woman who uses hot tools every morning. The girl who brushes through long wet hair straight after washing. The client whose hair becomes flatter as she gets older. The woman whose volume disappears the moment she steps into humid weather.

These are not laboratory problems looking for a product. They are real hair problems looking for a better answer.

That is why Repair & Rebond and Thickening & Volume were developed differently.

Repair & Rebond is for hair that has lost strength through the lengths and ends.
Thickening & Volume is for hair that has lost body, lift and structure.

One supports compromised hair. The other creates flexible volume. And for many women, the answer is a combination of both.

How to Help Prevent Hair Breakage While Adding Volume

If you are wondering how to prevent hair breakage, start with gentle everyday habits. Detangle carefully from the ends upwards, avoid pulling through knots and limit unnecessary heat. Combine those habits with care for weakened lengths and lightweight styling at the roots.

1. Start with clean, towel-dried hair. Spray Repair & Rebond through the lengths and ends and comb it through gently with a wide-tooth comb or detangling brush.

2. Add volume at the roots. Apply Thickening & Volume at the roots and through the mid-lengths.

3. Blow-dry with movement. Use a round brush and lift at the roots. The product stays workable, so keep shaping.

4. Let the volume set. From around 90% dry, the flexible resin builds body and hold. Finish the last part of the blow-dry with the brush still in motion.

5. Finish your look. Pin a soft half-up or loose chignon with the Nº1 Hairpin for a style that holds all day without stiffness.

Your Hair Is Not Simply “Getting Thinner”

Sometimes it has been coloured, heated, brushed, stressed and styled for years. And perhaps what it really needs is not more weight, more stiffness or more camouflage. It needs strength, body, flexibility, shine and movement back.
Strength for the lengths. Flexible volume for the roots.
